Adam’s Apple Shaving

Adam’s apple shaving, otherwise known, as Chondrolaryngoplasty is a surgical procedure to reduce the thyroid notch prominence among transgenders and for women who have large thyroid cartilage. It Is a relatively safe surgery usually being done with local anesthesia alone or with sedation. A 4 cm incision will be done directly t the level of the adam’s apple exposing the thyroid cartilage. Shaving of the prominence will be carefully done with out injuring the vocal cord.

Post Surgery expectations:

  • Swelling— The evening of the surgery swelling comes up.
  • Peak at 24 to 48 hours
  • completely subside after about 6 weeks
  • Pain— For about 7 to 10 days you will probably have a burning sensation and some difficulty swallowing or talking. Patients report it as being very similar to a simple sore throat.
  • Voice— Mild voice weakness may occur in the first few days after surgery, but is normally temporary.
